LAC can grant you a Community Identification Card

Charlotte-NC. The Latin American Coalition (LAC) offers a Community ID Card as part of the Interfaith Action Network.

The Latin American Coalition (a FaithAction ID Network partner) ID card provides you with a verifiable form of identification that can be used as a tool by law enforcement and other community agencies to better identify, serve, and protect you. It may or may not be accepted, depending on the policy of each agency and the discernment of each official.

The card is issued during a workshop based on the rights of the attendees, with the timely participation of CMPD officials. We do not issue IDs to individuals who do not comply with the strict verification process we follow.

Starting in Greensboro, NC, the Faith Action ID Network has expanded to other cities and counties where organizations now issue ID cards, including Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Forsyth, Mecklenburg, and Orange counties.

Law enforcement agencies supporting this program include: Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Burlington, Graham, Mebane, Elon, Gibsonville, Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Asheboro Police, as well as the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Moses Cone and Wake Forest Baptist Hospitals.

LAC ID Requirements:

All participants must:

-Attend identification orientation and be cooperative throughout the process.

-Sign the form and the admission sheet (clear and correct spelling).

-Proof of current residence (in your name).

-Present a photo identification (such as passport, foreign nationality identity document, consular registration, driver’s license, regardless of whether it is expired).

-Provide proof of address (such as utility bill, bank statement, lease, medical history).

The requested documents must be original. There may be some limited flexibility on certain requirements.

LAC ID Card Limitations:

It is not a driver’s license or a form of government-issued identification. You will not stop prosecution if you engage in illegal activity. It does not affect or impact any present or future immigration process. Pursuant to HB 318, community IDs and consular IDs cannot be accepted by a judge, clerk, magistrate, or “government official.”
